Dear Chet:
I can't let the new year begin without a comment about the passing of the Godfather of Soul. As blues musicians, I can't help but believe that James Brown touched each and every one of us. I remember seeing James Brown on the Ed Sullivan Show on my family's black and white TV when I was a small child. Even then, I was struck by the man's talent and powerful presence. As a musician, I was always influenced by that JB groove. I will miss the man and his music a great deal and I think we all owe a good deal to him for his influence on the music we love. God bless James Brown and rest in peace.
Thanks,
Karl |

Alright, I'll try to get this started. . .
a few highlights of my 2006 would include the release of our debut "Don't Get Me Started!" CD (Thanks to Buick Wilson and other friends for helping, you all know who you are!) and it having been nominated as one of the best blues records by 2006 San Diego Music Awards was of course very rewarding!
I'd have to say the coolest shows that we played, for me (since I'm a long time fan) was to open for the Willie "Big Eyes" Smith Band down at Humphrey's Lounge, and it was also a total Blast for my band getting to Jam with Mr. Johnny "Mississippi" Dyer while knocking it out at our Official Los Angeles debut for the annual Maxson Roadhouse Festival!
ya know I attend so many concerts it's not easy for me to pick a favorite. but I can tell you a few of the best this year would have to include the Doheney Blues Festival, very cool day hanging with Brother James Harman. . . and The Mannish Boys! this Festival gets better every year. www.omegaevents.com/dohenybl ues
The annual Battle of the Blues Harps in Long Beach was very cool! with Al Blake, Juke Logan, Johnny Dyer, Mitch Kashmir, Rod Piazza, James Harman and More! We look forward to this one every year! check details here www.southlandblues.com
Candye Kane's Birthday Party Extravaganza at Tio Leo's with the Candye Kane Band starting the evening and Sue Palmer's Motel Swing Orchestra wrapping it up with a Big Bang. . . Oh Yeah Baby, That was one hell of a Party! Be sure to support these great artists www.candyekane.com www.suepalmer.com
The other Show that deserves mention as quite Awesome would be Bob Corritore's 50th Birthday at The Rhythym Room in Phoenix with Hubert Sumlin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Henry Gray, Bob Stroger, Chris James, Patrick Rynn, Pete Pearson and Rhythm Room AllStars.
Man, this was so wild I wrote a song about it; the Road Trip Blues! Check it out: www.myspace.com/ChetandTheCo mmittee
Thanks for your friendship and support,
a Very Happy New Year to Everyone!
